HS2 Phase One runs from London Old Oak Common to Birmingham Curzon Street, with major worksites at Euston, West Ruislip, the Chiltern tunnels, Long Itchington Wood and Washwood Heath.

HS2 Accommodation: Local Guide

HS2 splits into three practical accommodation markets — West London, the Chilterns and the West Midlands — and the right base depends entirely on which compound your crew reports to.

Getting to site

Old Oak Common and Euston teams are best served by West London and Acton, where the A40 and Overground keep the run to the station box short. Chiltern tunnel and viaduct crews do better in Aylesbury or Amersham, where the A413 and A41 avoid the worst of the M25. In the Midlands, Curzon Street, Interchange and Washwood Heath are all inside a 20–30 minute drive of Birmingham and Solihull outside peak hours.

Parking & vehicles

Off-street parking is the deciding factor in London — we prioritise properties with a driveway or allocated bay so crew vans and tool-laden pickups are not left on permit streets. In Aylesbury, Amersham and Solihull, driveway parking for two or three vehicles is realistic.

Everyday living

All three bases have full supermarkets, 24-hour options and gyms within a short drive, which matters more than it sounds when a team is cooking for itself six nights a week. Chiltern bases are quieter, so we point crews at properties near the town centre rather than isolated villages.

Shifts & rotations

Most HS2 packages run day shift with rotational weeks away, plus night possessions on systems and station works. Keyless entry and no reception hours mean a 05:00 start or a 02:00 finish does not wake the rest of the house.

Practical pointers for HS2 teams

Confirm which compound the team reports to before choosing a base — Euston and Curzon Street are different markets entirely.
Chiltern works often need two or three smaller properties rather than one large house.
Birmingham stock books up fastest around Curzon Street; give us four weeks' notice where you can.
