Sellafield is one of Europe's most complex decommissioning programmes, running for decades with a constant flow of specialist contractors.

Sellafield Accommodation: Local Guide
West Cumbria has limited stock and long travel times, so securing houses in Whitehaven, Egremont and Seascale early is the difference between a workable placement and a two-hour daily commute.
Getting to site
Whitehaven is around 15–20 minutes from the main gate on the A595, with Egremont and Seascale closer still. Workington and Cockermouth add 30–45 minutes but hold the overflow capacity for bigger teams.
Parking & vehicles
Site parking is controlled and heavily used, so most crews car-share or use the bus. Off-street parking at the property for one or two vehicles is normally enough.
Everyday living
Whitehaven has the supermarkets, gyms and pubs; the smaller villages do not. For longer placements we recommend a Whitehaven or Egremont base so the crew is not driving for a loaf of bread.
Shifts & rotations
Decommissioning packages run continuous shift patterns with rotational travel home. Long-stay monthly terms with a nominated changeover day work best.

- Book Cumbria stock as far ahead as you can — it is the tightest market on this list.
- Whole houses for four to six are far better value than separate rooms here.
- Factor the A595 into travel time; it is single carriageway for most of the run.
